I've got a rough idea of a story layout:

  1. Leaving Terra and the Sol System to explore the stars in the name of the Emperor. Lots of fare-thee-wells and emotional moments coupled with a few glimpses of Terra just as the Great Crusade launches itself off into the stars. The Guiding Light splits off from the main fleets and enters the Warp, heading towards a region that will become known as the Halo Stars. End of the first story, I should think.
  2. A long, long Warp journey. People get bored. Drama, sex, arguments, that sort of thing. Mostly just indulgent stuff to satisfy my own interests and tastes. The Captain just sits in his quarters and drinks amasec while his subordinates bone each other and place bets on storeroom brawls.
  3. Arrival! Cosmic, celestial horror! The Halo Stars, the graveyard of civilisations unknown and forever lost to the Imperium. I think a few short stories about the ruins of various different planets and how some are weirdly close to human in their appearance and architecture...

After that, well, who knows? Not I, for sure.

So, an idea of mine is slowly coming to fruition: inspired a little by Star Trek, adventures based around the adventures of a Great Crusade exploration expedition.

A brief overview of stuff:
  • Captain Tal Basilon leads the crew of Guiding Light in their mission of exploration; rather than seeking out the lost fragments of humanity, their duty is to recover technology and artefacts for the Emperor’s archives.
  • Diverse group of weapons specialists, historians and archaeologists, medics and psykers. Around 250, including menial crew.
  • Soldiers are armed with a special pattern of lasgun and powered carapace armour - the Ikh-12 Lasgun and Alain Pattern armour, respectively.
  • Emphasis on hope and exploration, though with flashes of darkness (especially in regard to news of the genocide of alien races).

Main characters are:
  • Tal Basilon, a veteran of the Unification Wars and one of the Imperial Army’s finest soldiers. A superb soldier, though not inclined towards diplomatic affairs and suffers from PTSD from the UW. (Heteromantic asexual.)
  • Arnegundis, weapons specialist. Armed with a heavy archaeotech heavy autogun and an excellent shot. Tal’s right hand and loved by the crew. (She is transgender and bisexual).
  • Mary Louisa Bell Taramina Duvon. Disgraced noblewoman given a chance at redemption, has a wealthy array of gear and is very highly strung. Not popular with a lot of the troops. (Bisexual, cisgender.)
  • Garaint, heavy weapons expert. Can blow up anything, with anything. Also a veteran of the UW and has experience fighting psychic foes. (Straight and cisgender.)

Possible adventures:

If anyone would ever be interested in doing crossovers or writing about the crew then I'm more than happy to join forces and create evil wonders.
